Hurricane Threat to Florida Next Week

Sep 23, 2022 ·   Tournament News

Managers, we are monitoring the possible Tropical Storm/Hurricane that is moving into the Caribbean in the next couple of days.  As you know, there are always possible scenarios, but we should get a better picture from the Weather Channel by Sunday or so.  It could move out into the western Gulf, stay in the middle, or come close or over Florida.  We have 80 or so teams registered for the tournament, so we want to play, but we will not put any of you in danger just to play a softball game for a tee shirt.  Every one of ...

Chairman's Notes - August 2022 - Part 2

Aug 29, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

For some time now, we have been using our current points system.  As you know, a team gets points for winning games and brackets.  Also, if a team misses a monthly tournament, they will retain approximately the same ranking as before. You Managers voted on this last fall.  Rankings may be affected by teams below you winning a bracket and moving up, but also because of the Ranking Committee's observations.  We will readdress this policy this fall. I was asked last month about what kinds of things the Board spends money ...

Chairman's Notes - August 2022 - Part 1

Aug 29, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, there seems to be some question on how the FHC Board of Directors handles the tournament money that comes in and goes out each tournament weekend, especially when we have a shortened game situation.  Managers, all you or your Players have to do is just ask us, and we can give you a tournament rundown anytime you want.  We do not keep secrets.  Also, we are audited yearly.   An average tournament for us now is 70 teams, so that would be 70 x $250, which is $17,500.   In our scenario, we get in all ...

To all Managers

Aug 18, 2022 ·   General

Managers: Men, many of you already know that I had a really bad incident happen in Lakeland on August 6th.  To make a long story short, I was stepping up on a sidewalk, fell down, and tore the outside of my left leg very bad.  A young woman (my Angel) rushed in, wrapped up my leg in a blanket and got me to some Emergency help.  I had an emergency operation and stayed at Lakeland Regional for several days.  I am home now and on the mend.  Thank God for my wife Sherry.     We never expect things like thi ...

FHC Umpire, Ted Homer, has passed away

Aug 03, 2022 ·   General

Guy's, it's with great sadness that I let everyone know that Ted Homer, one of our umpires and a very dear friend of mine passed away this morning due to cancer. Ted truly enjoyed umpiring and being out on the field with the guys. Ted was a very competitive person all of his life and it tore him up that he couldn't work anymore. The medications Ted was on prevented him from being able to be out in the sun for long periods of time as well, therefore he couldn't come out to the tournaments just to be around the guy's and the game. ...

Chairman's Notes - July 2022

Jul 27, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, I have several things for you tonight.  Can you believe it is almost August?  Before we get down to business, let me share something great and awesome! On July 29 1972, I made the best decision possible of my entire life.  I married a sweet and beautiful 19 year old young woman named Sherry, and my whole life changed for the better.  On Friday we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.  Like me, she became a teacher.  With her intellect and people skills, she could have been anything she wanted ...

Lost 2 of our softball family

Jul 06, 2022 ·   General

Men, it is with tears in my eyes and a huge lump in my throat that I tell you that we lost a great friend today.  Carlton Benton, our USA representative, passed away this morning.  He has been my friend for almost 50 years.  When I became Chairman of this FHC group, I quickly switched over to Carlton and the USA office because of my great trust in him.  I just talked to his daughter Natalie, and she will get the "celebration information" to us as she plans it.  I do not know who will take over his position.  N ...

Chairman's Notes - June 2022

Jun 29, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, can you believe that it is almost July?  We have 6 months to go in 2022.  Could you imagine saying that back in the year 2000?  Not me either.  I have a few things for you:   It is absolutely imperative that all of you Managers do a good job of communicating with your Players and Team followers.  I will address that momentarily.  In the last tournament we had bad weather on Saturday afternoon and lost a few games so we decided to go to 'shortened games' to get Sunday's schedule in and hopefull ...
